de Almeria is located on the south-east coast of the Iberian
Peninsula. It has more than 200km of beautiful beaches along its coastline.
Almeria has the driest climate in Spain and
boasts over 300 days of sunshine each year with a year round average
temperature of 18-19 degrees C. Almeria’s summers start well
before Easter and last well into November. Inland it has an
almost lunar landscape of desert sandstone cones and dried up riverbeds.
This climate and scenery have made Almeria
one of the most popular film locations in Europe – much of Lawrence
of Arabia was shot here along with scores of Spaghetti Westerns.
On the coast Almeria is still largely unspoiled; lack
of water and roads frustrated development in the 1970’s and 1980’s but
now the infrastructure is in place and the area is finally beginning to
take off.
