beginning to attract interest from the Northern European market. Nicknamed

The Costa de la Luz (Coast of Light) between Cadiz
and Tarifa, at Spain's southern most tips is an unspoiled, windswept
stretch of coast characterised by strong, pure light, the source of
its name. From the Sierra del Cabrito to the west of Algericas it is
often possible to see the outline of Tangier and the patched Moroccan
landscape below the purple tinged Rif mountain across the narrow straits
of Gibraltar.
The breeze from the Atlantic means that during summer temperatures
remain pleasant - although winter can be a little too chilly for the
beach - but with an average year round temperature of 20 degrees Celsius
the Costa de la Luz has the perfect microclimate for an active holiday.
In recent years windsurfing enthusiasts have capitalised on the ideal
conditions around the pretty town of Tarifa.
The beaches are surrounded by rolling pastures, dense pine forests
and farmland and you also have some of the most famous and beautiful
towns and cities in Spain at your fingertips: Seville and Huelva
to name but two. Another is Cadiz, founded by the Phoenicians in 1100BC
and claiming the title of the oldest city in Western Europe.
There has been virtually no property promotion in the Costa de la Luz,
with only a handful of developers building under heavy restrictions
placed by the government in a deliberate attempt to divert it from a
similar fate to the more popular Costa's.
