Javea
As the young adults of Valencia who so love this charming and attractive
resort would tell you, Javea is a great place that gently buzzes with
life and confidence for such a small destination, particularly in
the balmy summer evenings. This is a historic coastal town that not
only offers respectable night-time fun, but also peace and quiet during
the daytime. Known as Xabia to the Spanish (but also referred to as
such in some UK tourism guidebooks), Javea is extremely picturesque,
offering classic images of this part of Spain for the keen photographer

Javea's history has centred on fishing and maritime activity, and
so the port acts as the natural focus of the town. Skirted by a pretty
promenade lined with cafés and excellent fish restaurants,
Aduanas de Mar - as it is locally known - is spiritually protected
by the Church of Nestra Senora de Loreto, which has a roof resembling
the hull of a ship. It is a stunning building, and the undisputed
architectural highlight of Javea. Another dramatic building that should
not be missed, however, is the late gothic Church of San Bartolemé
in the town centre. And silently watching over the whole scene is
the very impressive Mount Montgó, providing a powerful backdrop.
Javea has a magnificent marina that offers fishing trips and many
other watersport facilities that include sailing, water skiing, windsurfing,
scuba diving and snorkelling. Other sports available in the area of
Javea are golf - with the Javea Golf Club set in a gorgeous location
surrounded by orange groves and pine trees - horse riding, shooting,
tennis and football. The beach here is lovely, caressed by clear,
clean sea that is perfectly safe for the whole family to enjoy swimming.
